Robotics (Grades 4-5)

We invite you to come see what 4th and 5th grade robotics is all about!  We will work in teams of 6 to:

  • Build a robot per team (EV3).  This robot design will be part of the judging the team goes through at competition Nov. 12th!
  • Help build the competition 4' x 6' field parts out of the designed lego sets for the season (all teams help build 1 field set)
  • Learn to program the team EV3 with Mindstorms Lego Education to accomplish certain missions on the field in a total of 2 1/2 minutes.  The team will have sensors and small motors available to them in addition to the EV3 Brick and large motors.
  • Research and create a creative solution to a real world problem about being "Super Powered" and tackle a real-world problem about sustainable energy. This will become a project that is presented to the Judges on Competition day Nov. 12th.  A 5-minute presentation is also given by the team at the competition.
  • Have fun and work together!

This is a big commitment as the rest of the team will be counting on YOU to do your part in this 2-3 month long project!  We meet two times a week, Tuesdays AND Thursdays and continuous attendance is very important to Team Success!

We are seeking 3 paid coaches for the season and 6 committed parent volunteers to be with/ work with the teams.  Transportation to the required event on Nov. 12th in Fountain will need to be done by the students and their families.  The size of the class will depend on all of these factors!

It is an exciting, rigorous opportunity to create, build, problem solve, and present what you've learned in a culminating, competitive event with FIRST Robotics!  We hope you will join us in the hard work and adventure!

There will be an additional $25 fee to MSES Robotics for Season t-shirts that is payable to the front office by Aug. 30.
